As a young child born and brought up in Ayrshire, I formed a love of books and reading. I was thrilled to receive a book as a gift and if given money, my first thought would invariably be that I could get another Enid Blyton book in the Famous Five series or, when I outgrew them, one of the classics such as Jane Eyre or Little Women.

I embarked on a career as a primary teacher in Dumfries and Galloway and discovered that one of my greatest pleasures was reading aloud to the children. There is nothing like witnessing the pleasure and excitement that a well written story can evoke in children or snuggling up with your child to enjoy a bedtime story together.

Over the years I enjoyed writing rhyming verses for family or friends on special occasions. So, when I decided to write my own stories for children, it was obvious to me that my stories should rhyme. 

Having decided on a rhyming format, I gave thought to the subject matter. It is my belief that books can educate as well as entertain and so I chose to embark on a series of books featuring endangered animals. I hope that as the children enjoy the stories they will also be learning about the characteristics, habitats and reasons why these animals are endangered. It may even be possible that some will be inspired to learn more and develop a positive attitude towards all wildlife.
